Things You Need To Know In Your Twenties

• You are the main character. You are in control of your life. If you don’t like where it’s headed, change it. If you want something, make it happen. Your story revolves around you. • You are not obligated to sustain shitty friendships. If the people in your life are not treating you with the same respect you give them, you do not need to keep them in your life! This is a hard one to learn and I am a firm believer in forgiveness- but, you really don’t owe anyone an explanation. • You do not need to know what you want to do for the rest of your life. If you already know your life calling, that is great! But, most of us don’t. And that’s okay too! It’s insane to think that at the ages 17-21 you’re expected to know how you want to spend the rest of your life. You have a lifetime to figure it out, don’t stress too much. • Not everything is about you. This might seem like it contradicts my first two points… but hear me out. We spend so much time overthinking that it can get out of hand and we can start thinking about all the ways people have done us wrong or why someone doesn’t like us. I hear this happening all around me and I always have to remind the person worrying that people have their own things going on and every action doesn’t revolve around the feelings of others! You might be thinking, “DUH”, but sometimes we need the reminder. • Pick your battles. We all know this saying. But, if you’re anything like me- when I get close to someone I tend to share every feeling with them- which might lead us to picking too many fights. I don’t mean to! I just love communicating which leads to me bringing up feelings that I could have worked through on my own. • You should always be growing. Every day should feel brand new and you should always be working towards being a better person. Your friendships and relationships should be pushing you even further into your growth. There will be times where you might feel stuck and that’s okay, keep pushing! • Love what you do. Not every job is going to be perfect, especially the entry level ones on the way to reaching your dreams. But, you can find fun in anything you do if you find a place to inspire your passion and excitement. • Write things down. Journaling is for all ages, and it’s important. If you think it, write it down. If you want to remember it, write it down. If you’re sad, write it down. If you’re happy, write it down. • Be passionate. About anything. About everything. Live excitedly and passionately. • Your opinion of yourself is all that matters. As long as you are happy and kind to others, you can do whatever you want. No one’s opinion of your life matters, you owe it to yourself to whatever makes YOU happy and feel alive.
